Welsh team score sublime counter-attack try in move that started underneath their own posts

From a perfect pass off the floor to an exquisite kick, this counter-attacking try scored by Welsh rugby team Nantgaredig RFC is simply sublime.

The effort occurred in a match between Nantgaredig RFC and Kidwelly in the Welsh Rugby Union Division Two Cup last October. The latter would go on to win the game 36-17 to reach the knockouts. However, this would be a day to remember for Nantgaredig.

The scintillating score began with Kidwelly pressuring the opposition's defensive line in their 22, but the ball was expertly stripped to give possession back to Nantgaredig, who cleared their lines.

A lucky bounce gave possession to Remiel Wharton, who collected neatly and offloaded on to George Gleeson before being tackled. Gleeson dived for the ball as it fell slightly in front of him, hitting the deck in the process.

However, he kept the move alive and pinged it into Rhys Edwards while on his knees. Edwards took a few steps before three players closed down on him. With no other option he stuck ball to boot and sent the rest of his team-mates flying towards the whitewash to touch the ball down.

It was a magnificent punt from Edwards as the ball trudged at a perfect speed towards the try line. Rhydian Evans of Nantgaredig had the gas to outpace a desperate Kidwelly winger, and touched down to complete a quite magnificent score.

Try scorer Evans has made 205 appearances for the club, having played in non-league to Division Two rugby. He's also a year six primary school teacher in Nantgaredig.

Tomas Marks, head coach of the team, said the score was symbolic of their playing style at the club.

"Brilliant turnover try and a try that's typical of our Nant philosophy," he said. "Players in Nant have a licence to thrill in attack and all the players in the club embrace total rugby."
