Welsh students studying in English universities told to stay at home and not return for studies

Students in Wales studying in English universities have been told to stay home and study from there until at least mid-February after a national lockdown was announced in England.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the whole of England would move to alert level five - the highest level of restrictions - immediately from Monday, January 4.

Addressing the nation, Mr Johnson issued a firm 'stay at home' message to members of the public, who are being asked only to leave their home if they cannot work from home, to buy necessities, for exercise, to escape domestic abuse or to attend medical appointments.

As part of the new restrictions, students will not be able to return to university and will be expected to continue studying from their current residence until at least mid-February.

This means that any students from Wales who are studying in English universities will not be allowed to return before that time.

In-person teaching at university will continue only for a small number of critical courses previously announced, such as those studying to work in the health service.
