No need to fish around for keys: the door opens to admit you, following a retina scan, the lights come on thanks to movement sensors and the house switches into occupied mode.
It’s unseasonably chilly out, but inside it’s just right because the heating kicked in when it knew you were on your way. The floors are all clean because the vacuum rovers went into operation after you left, the washing machine has finished its self-program and the clothes are clean, dry and folded inside.

The TV switches on instantly. It has recorded a documentary about peregrine falcons because it knows you’re a wildlife lover from your viewing habits. The lights dim as you settle down to watch. The oven monitors the food so it doesn’t burn.
Halfway through, you get up to use the toilet, the screen pauses automatically and the lights dim. The toilet flushes itself, you return and everything picks up where it left off.
Exhausted, you soon turn in for an early night, the house locks itself down and switches on security systems. Ambient music plays till it senses you are asleep.
