Weight loss coach shares Aldi’s best low-calorie weekly shopping list essentials

A weight loss coach who once topped the scales at 36st 10lb has shared Aldi’s best low-calorie weekly shop essentials that helped him lose over 18st in weight. Neil Scurrah, 41, from Blackpool, now helps others transform their bodies and their lives by taking control of their diet.

The former accountant turned weight loss coach, on Instagram and TikTok as @ the.real.loss.boss , began his weight loss journey in 2013 after piling on the pounds during a “six-month bender” triggered by the death of his father. Now Neil follows a calorie controlled diet and trains at the gym several times a week.

In his most recent TikTok the weight loss influencer shares his top tips for what to buy in your weekly shop at Aldi. He captioned the video: “Make sure these are in your weekly trolley!”

Aldi shopping list for weight loss

Here Neil lists the basic essentials that he grabs almost every time he heads to Aldi. These are low-calorie foods that can be used to make filling calorie counted meals.

Fruits and vegetables:

  • Strawberries - 132 calories per 400g punnet

  • Blueberries - 86 calories per 150g punnet

  • Bananas - 89 calories per banana

  • New potatoes - 65 calories per 100g serving

  • Four Seasons steam bags of vegetables - 83 calories per bag

Bread:

  • Aldi’s New York style bagel thins - 120 calories per bagel

  • Aldi’s sandwich thins - 100 calories per thin

Meat:

  • Chicken breast mini fillets - 106 calories per 100g

  • Lean beef steak mince, 5% fat - 131 calories per 100g

  • Lean bacon rashers unsmoked - 58 calories per two medallions

Fish:

  • Tuna chunks in spring water - 109 calories per tin

Dairy:

  • Emporium light cheese slices - 42

  • calories per slice

  • Babybel light - 42 calories per cheese

  • Brooklea protein pot vanilla - 143 calories per pot

  • Aldi’s own chocolate chip cookie minis - 99 calories per bag

  • Belmont caramelised biscuits - 40 calories per biscuit

  • Snackrite Cheese puffs - 92 calories per bag

  • Vive Orange no-sugar drink - 2 calories per can

Neil sticks to a weekly calorie deficit rather than a daily limit, meaning that his favourite junk foods aren't “forbidden” as long as they fit within the weekly calorie allowance. He tells his followers: “No food makes you fat. No food makes you thin.

"Certain foods just contain more calories than others. Part of a successful weight loss journey is creating a good relationship with food.”
