Weekly Watchlist Vol. 13 – Brick-building battles and island betrayals (Sept. 29-Oct. 6)

Hello again, Destructoid, and welcome to a fresh week of diving into discussing what we've been watching lately. This time, we're delving into two of my favorite reality TV shows.

First up, we'll get into the brick building madness that is LEGO Masters, as I finally caught up on the most recent season. Naturally, I had to check in on the latest Survivor season too, since it just came back last week. No spoilers here, but it's already shaping up to be another wild ride of strategy, surprises, and unforgettable personalities.

LEGO Masters is gloriously goofy in the best way, and if you haven’t tuned in yet, I can’t recommend it enough. I grew up building LEGO sets nonstop, so the show is a fun, nostalgic way for me to reconnect with something I now only dabble in occasionally.

The premise is simple: teams of two compete in weekly themed challenges, vying for the chance to be the last one standing to claim the title of LEGO Master. It's hosted by none other than LEGO Batman himself, Will Arnett, who brings his signature blend of dry wit and over-the-top silliness to every episode.

Season five was an especially good one, as it was packed with special collaboration episodes. I really enjoyed them, as it was so fun to see the teams create builds based on iconic franchises. There were challenges for Star Wars, Wicked, and Batman, making for some really fun builds throughout the entire season.

Overall, LEGO Masters continues to be one of the most creative and genuinely joyful competition shows on TV, and I'm thrilled that it's already been renewed for another season. It’s a rare series that celebrates imagination and teamwork while still being wildly entertaining.

That said, I was definitely bummed to hear that Will Arnett won't be the host next season. His presence has been such a big part of the show's charm. Nick Cannon is taking over for season six, and while I’m curious to see how it goes, it's hard to imagine anyone matching Arnett's perfect mix of sarcasm and silliness.

I've also recently been enjoying Survivor, as the show just came back for its 49th season. I've been watching Survivor for as long as I can remember, and I'm always shocked by how it never gets old to me. Each season feels like an entirely new show because of how different all of the contestants are.

What keeps me coming back season after season is the perfect blend of social strategy, physical challenges, and psychological gameplay. No matter how familiar the format might seem, the unique mix of personalities always throws in fresh twists and unpredictable dynamics.

Season 49 is already off to a solid start, as the new cast is full of big characters and interesting new players. It's too early to know exactly what's in store, but as always, we can expect to see plenty of chaotic alliances and blindsides.

I'm sure this season will be great, as I've never been let down by one, but I have to admit I'm eager to get through it so we can get to Survivor 50. The next season, which will likely debut sometime in early 2026, features all returning players to commemorate 50 seasons of the show. Some of my favorites are coming back, and I can't wait to see contestants from past seasons collide in this epic island showdown.
