Week in review: Bezos changes Venice wedding celebrations amid protest threats - what the papers say

One of the world’s richest men, Jeff Bezos, was reportedly forced to change his Venice wedding venue this week following protests from locals.

Mr Bezos, who this weekend is set to marry US TV presenter Lauren Sanchez, faced backlash from locals who claimed the $48million star-studded ceremony was “taking over the city”.

What we say

Critics claim the Bezos-Sanchez wedding has reduced the city — already struggling with overtourism — to little more than a flashy backdrop. Centuries ago, Venice set the standard for sumptuous ostentation. This weekend will be no different.
