Filming My Father: In Life And Death
7pm, Channel 5

Fraser Isaac has filmed his family since he was nine. In 2010, his dad, the active and pleasant Steve, was running a business in France when at 51 he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease. Steve soon grasps the nettle, building an extension to his house, and programming his voice synthesiser so he doesn’t “sound like Stephen Hawking”. Really, though, this intimate film is about the rapid onset of the disease, throughout which Steve remains jawdroppingly sanguine. John Robinson

Suffragettes Forever! The Story Of Women And Power
8pm, BBC2

How did women get the vote? One answer often advanced is that it was a reward for women’s efforts in the first world war. Not true, says Amanda Vickery as she concludes her excellent three-parter on women’s struggle for political influence. Instead, we’re shown the suffragettes as militants forcing change, and there’s a reminder that the Representation of the People Act 1918 was largely about men giving more men the vote. Nancy Astor on male vanity is a particular joy here. Jonathan Wright

The People’s Strictly For Comic Relief
9pm, BBC1

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman present the showdown for the six strictly non-celeb dancers, who must perform for the judges after weeks of training. There’s only one dance to get through, but will the hoofers be cut any slack by Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, Darcey Bussell and Anton Du Beke? It’s up to the public to choose their top couple, and the winners will be announced during Comic Relief on Friday. Who needs competitive celebs when you’ve got this lovely bunch of battlers? Hannah Verdier

In And Out Of The Kitchen
10pm, BBC4

His partner Anthony’s courgette soup diet is upsetting the builders; rival cookery writer Trudie Wilson (“the tautly skinned presenter of Crap Yourself Younger”) is threatening to sue over a Waitsbury’s magazine column; and his agent insists on taking him to restaurants with names like Zeitgeist. Miles Jupp’s radio sitcom, focusing on the eternally pained Damien Trench, makes the jump to TV with nary a hiccup, while retaining those useful fourth-wall-breaking recipes, such as roasted red pepper and crab bisque. A delight. Ali Catterall

The Liquidator
10pm, Quest

Jeff Schwarz, the owner of Direct Liquidation in Vancouver, buys unwanted merchandise cheap and then tries to sell it on at a profit. Having worked his way up through a food chain where businesses in distressed circumstances have become the day-to-day norm, he now has a 30,000 sq ft warehouse filled with items he’s trying to flog. As a third series of The Liquidator begins, we look on as Schwarz goes about his work, his first challenge being to shift the contents of a Chinese grocery. JW

Stop Cutting Our Girls: A Comic Relief Special
10pm, BBC3

Zawe Ashton of Fresh Meat fame investigates the fight against female genital mutilation in this one-off show for Red Nose Day. Her journey begins on home soil, where she meets women who were lured abroad by their own families in order to undergo procedures, as well as seeing how British children are educated on the subject. She then travels to Nairobi to hear from women saved from a similar fate by campaigner Agnes Pareyio. Inspiring and heartbreaking. Hannah J Davies

Underage And Gay
11pm, Channel 4

This excellent documentary follows the lives of a group of bisexual, gay and transgender teenagers who have decided, in today’s more tolerant climate, to come out. On camera, we see these brave, sweet kids enjoying the support of family, teachers and employers. Sadly, on social media, homophobes still lurk, leaving anonymous messages reminding us of the bigoted cruelty as well as the vulnerability of adolescents. Nonetheless, the fact they have decided to come out so early in life is a sign of hope for our times. David Stubbs
