Webcam to help manage SA virus test site

Wait times at Adelaide's Victoria Park testing site blew out to more than 12 hours at one stage. (AAP)

A webcam has been set up over Adelaide's largest drive-through COVID-19 testing site to help manage the high volume of people queueing for swabs.

The 24-hour site in Victoria Park was overwhelmed earlier this week with wait times blowing out to more than 12 hours at one stage.

The situation has improved but the Adelaide City Council says it has now set up the webcam to allow people to check the length of the line and consider going to another location.

It also provides SA Health with some additional eyes on the ground to help manage the site effectively.

"This is a simple but really smart initiative from our team that can be used at any time of the day or night to help the community decide when and where to be tested," Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor said.

The Victoria Park site was also closed temporarily on Saturday because of bad weather.

Vision of the testing site will be streamed on the City of Adelaide website at https://explore.cityofadelaide.com.au/webcams/victoria-park/
