'We’ve been talking' - Barcelona confirm stance on star linked with £41m Liverpool move

Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany has provided an update on the future of reported Liverpool transfer target Gavi.

The Reds have been credited with a tentative interest in the Barcelona youngster, who is tipped to have a bright future in the game. The 17-year-old is not out of contract until 2023, but there have been fears that he could leave the Nou Camp this summer.

It has been widely reported that Gavi has a release clause in his current deal worth £41million. These rumours have led to suggestions that Liverpool could make a move to bring the young midfielder to Anfield.

As a result, Barcelona are reportedly looking to extend Gavi’s contract before the summer transfer window opens. And now the club’s sporting director has addressed the player's future.

Alemany has reiterated Barcelona's wish to tie Gavi down to a new deal. He went on to say that the player himself also sees his long-term future at the Nou Camp.

“Gavi wants to stay,” Alemany told Spanish news outlet Sport .

“We’ve been talking for a long time and the two parties have the same idea, that he will be a Barcelona player for many years.”
