We tried body moisturisers from Boots, Soap & Glory, Cult Beauty, NEOM and three scored top marks

A good moisturiser is an essential for this time of year.

The cold weather can certainly take a toll on the skin, making it feel dry and cracked. A good body moisturiser is a real winter staple and is perfect for a bit of much-needed self care.

With so many options on the shelves, it can be hard to find the right moisturiser. From ultra hydrating creams to sweet scents, there's something out there to suit everyone.

With this in mind, we decided to put a range of differently priced body moisturisers from Boots, Soap and Glory, and Cult Beauty to the test to see how they compared. Here's how we got on:

Aveeno Daily Moisturising Body Lotion 200ml

(Liverpool Echo)

I'm quite fussy when it comes to moisturisers and have tried many different options over the years. However, none have compared to this Aveeno product, which I purchased from my local Boots store.

The moisturiser is recommended for normal to dry skin and aims to reinforce the skin's natural barrier. What I love about this product is how fast it absorbs into the skin. Some moisturisers can leave your skin feeling greasy and heavy, but you definitely don't get that with this one.

After using this moisturiser, my skin felt smoother than ever and I was really pleased with the results. The product does exactly what you want from a moisturiser and is amazing value for money, too.

Price: £6.29

Where to buy: Your local Boots store or online

Soap & Glory The Righteous Body Butter 300ml

I'm a big lover of anything Soap & Glory, so whenever I can get my hands on their popular 'The Righteous Body Butter', I do. Priced at a hefty £9.95, I do believe that you get your money's worth with this one considering the tub is massive.

I wouldn't say I'm particularly strict when it comes to products for body moisturising, and usually just go for a product that smells nice on the skin. I think this particular Body Butter smells absolutely incredible, and that signature perfumed Soap & Glory scent really packs a punch, and adds pizzazz to your skincare routine.

The body butter itself is very thick, which means a little goes a long way, making the coverage easy and effective on the skin. I like to focus on areas such as my arms and legs (particularly after shaving) to make sure I feel smooth and fresh.

This Soap & Glory Body Butter makes me feel properly pampered after use, and also makes me smell great, too. In true Soap & Glory fashion, the packaging is bright pink, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

For those of you that aren't a fan of strong scents, you might not like this body butter because it's highly perfumed. I, however, think it's incredible, and will continue to use it on a daily basis.

I wouldn't say that the Body Butter is mind blowing, but to me, it's just right. The scent is the real winner for me here, which is why I always highly recommend it.

Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream

Someone send help - I've fallen in love with a £48 body moisturiser.

I've always had dry skin, much like my mum, so she drilled it into me to moisturise daily from about the age of 13. On my quest for the silky smooth skin of my dreams, I've tried all sorts of lotions and potions from high end brands to the local supermarket's own budget-friendly concoctions over the years.

The search is over - I've found the most perfect, sumptuous and deliciously fragranced body moisturiser in all the land; Sol de Janeiro's Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. Pronounced "boom boom" in Brazil, the cream isn't just for the derriere but for the entire body. It promises to stimulate circulation to keep skin firm and tight while still providing much needed moisture.

The formula is satisfyingly light and airy, offering a silky texture which is quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving any unwanted tacky or oily residue - ideal for applying when you're in a rush, though you can still massage it in and take your time if you wish.

It leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth and while, at 31, tightening my skin isn't a major concern, Bum Bum cream does still leave my skin feeling firmer and gives it a bit more of a glow - winning.

One of my most favourite things about the cream, though, is the fragrance. It's a dreamy, sweet yet slightly nutty scent that I just can't get enough of. No matter how many times I use this product, I'm instantly soothed by the blissful aroma every time I twist the lid off the decadent tub. I constantly get asked what perfume I'm wearing and it's usually just the scent of this wonderful product.

It is definitely on the pricey side but a little goes a long way and I manage to make my 240ml tub last a few months - though it's not something I'm always in a position to buy. Whenever it's possible, this product is something I always stock up on - there's regular sales and discounts on Cult Beauty, and I usually ask for a tub at Christmas or for my birthday. If you can, I wholeheartedly recommend treating yourself to this dreamy, effective product.

Price: £48 for a 240ml tub

Where to buy: You can buy Sol de Janeiro's Brazilian Bum Bum Cream from Harvey Nichols, or online at Cult Beauty, Look Fantastic, Space NK and more

Neom Real Magnesium Body Butter 200ml

I got this Neom Real Magnesium Body Butter as part of a gift box for Christmas and it's left me wanting a full sized bottle. Not great for my bank balance as a 200ml tube costs an eye watering £36 (though currently on sale for £25).

But when applying the cream it really does feel like you're using a luxury product. It's made with a blend of 100% natural essential oils including lavender, jasmine and Brazilian Rosewood.

The oils create a scent that reminds me of being in a spa, and what’s more I can still smell it on my skin several hours after using it.

The body butter isn't too thin or too gloopy, it sinks in beautifully leaving me feeling hydrated but not sticky. The scent is created to 'destress' and it certainly leaves me feeling relaxed and pampered when I use it.

If you've got the budget for it, I can't recommend it enough.

Price: Currently £25 on sale
