We The Curious to close for 'a few weeks' following major fire in Bristol city centre

We The Curious are set to remain closed for 'a few weeks' following the fire which broke out on their roof in Bristol city centre. In an update on their website, the museum has said it will not be selling tickets for now as they deal with the damage from the blaze which started at 2pm yesterday (April 10).

The statement said: "We’ve now been able to start assessing the damage to our site; we have sustained some significant fire and water damage to the roof, our second floor and areas of the building where water has come through. Thankfully, our main exhibition floors appears to remain relatively unharmed.

"We’ve still got some more assessing of the site to do, but we now know that we’ll be closed for a few weeks. If you’ve booked tickets with us over the next few weeks, our teams will be in touch with you to rearrange your visit. We’ve also taken tickets off sale for the next few weeks, so you won’t be able to book tickets at the moment."

Emergency services rushed to deal with the fire, which came from solar panels on the roof of the building according to the fire service. Smoke could be seen billowing across the city centre by the harbourside, while people were evacuated from We The Curious and Millennium Square.

A couple were due to be married inside We The Curious but had their day disrupted as firefighters tackled the flames. The fire service eventually handed back the building to staff at about 5.35pm.

We The Curious is a charity, and it has appealed for donations from people following the fire. You can find out how to give money by clicking here.
