We spoke to Dennistoun residents living in the 'most stylish' neighbourhood in the city

Dennistoun has recently been named Glasgow’s most stylish place to live.

According to new research conducted by Furniturebox, the east end suburb, home to Necropolis cemetery, was the highest-rated area in the city which included many notable neighbourhoods from all over the UK.

However, Dennistoun, coming 34th on the list overall, was not the only place to be listed in Scotland’s biggest city with the likes of, Hillhead, Giffnock, the west end, and Saltcoats all making the cut.

Glasgow Live took a walk through the community and chatted with local businesses and residents about why they think, Dennistoun was voted Glasgow’s most stylish neighbourhood.

Billy and Emma Doonon, at Robert's Hair Design, were enthusiastic about the news that Dennistoun was voted Glasgow's most stylish neighbourhood. They chatted extensively about the new developments in the area, and about the places that need to be redeveloped.

Billy said: "There has been an influx of students and young professionals in this area, and it has put more of a focus back on Dennistoun again, as an alternative to the west end and the south side.

"There is a reawakening ongoing, Dennistoun has reawakened and it has become a very hipster area of the city, full of young professionals."

Andrea, co-owner of Mesa Cafe, located on Duke Street, really enjoys running a business in the area due to the people and the community feel and spirit that the locality currently has.

The cafe owner, who specialises in delicious sandwiches and coffee, said: "I really like the community vibe.

"It is great to see the area expanding with new people coming in, from all of the age groups, young, old, retirees, students."

Former Dennistoun local, and current worker in the area, Eilidh Mcintosh, really likes the neighbourhood but like others believes it needs some redevelopment.

The west end resident said: "Dennistoun is a really cool place, but it is a little bit derelict in some areas.

"The main street, Duke Street is trendy but it isn't super polished and I think that is what attracts people to live here, for that classic Glasgow feel."

Colin Gibson has lived in Dennistoun for 25 years and enjoys the many features that the area offers such as the parks, allotments, cafes, and restaurants.
