We simulated Southampton vs Manchester United to get a score prediction

Manchester United are hoping to record their fourth consecutive win in all competitions against Southampton.

However, Saints are unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions and four of the last five meetings between these two sides have ended in draws.

United will be without Eric Bailly and Luke Shaw for this weekend's game, with further injury concerns around the fitness of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, so Donny van de Beek could make his full Premier League debut.

Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond will both be missing for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side, with Theo Walcott and Moussa Djenepo likely to start.

So, what will the final score be? We used FIFA 21 to simulate the outcome of the game.

Southampton vs United score predicted using FIFA 21

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 21 but didn't select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to legendary, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions.

We predict that Southampton could set up in a 4-4-2 formation, with the line-up as follows: McCarthy; Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Bertrand; Armstrong, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Djenepo; Adams, Walcott.

We predict that United could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Alex Telles; Van de Beek, Fred, Fernandes; Rashford, Cavani, Martial.

Just 10 minutes into our simulated game, Southampton took the lead, with James Ward-Prowse playing in Moussa Djenepo, who skipped past a United defender before firing in at the near post.

But nine minutes before the break, having dominated most of the half in terms of possession and chances, United grabbed an equaliser.

Edinson Cavani received the ball inside the area and flicked it backwards towards Donny van de Beek, who made no mistake with a clinical finish.

In the second-half, the away side continued to dominate and finally took the lead just before the hour mark, with Van de Beek playing a great pass in-behind Vestergaard for Cavani, who ran onto the pass and finished confidently into the corner.

And that's how it finished, with United deserving of the three points in our simulation.
