'We saw the crowd' - Graeme Souness makes Everton relegation claim

Graeme Souness has backed Everton to avoid relegation from the Premier League and said that they are in ‘a good place’

After the midweek results, where Everton drew 0-0 with Watford and Leeds lost 3-0 at home to Chelsea, the Toffees are two points clear of the bottom three. They also have a game in hand on Leeds who are level on points with 17th placed Burnley but have a much worse goal difference of minus 38. This is compared to Everton’s minus 19 and Burnley’s minus 17.

In their remaining games, Everton face Brentford and Crystal Palace at Goodison Park, before a final day trip to Arsenal. Leeds meanwhile host in-form Brighton this weekend before a trip to Brentford. Burnley travel to both Tottenham and Aston Villa and then entertain Newcastle. Souness believes Everton’s recent form that has seen them pick up seven points in three games has put them in a good position to survive.

Speaking after Leeds lost 3-0 to Chelsea at Elland Road on Wednesday night, he told Sky Sports: “I am thinking Everton are in a good place. They have a bit of momentum right now. We saw the Goodison Park crowd last week [during Everton’s 1-0 win over Chelsea]. They were sensational.

“I think Burnley might struggle to win any of those games. Newcastle are a very different team now. I think Leeds will have to win one of those games, as I see it. They have to win a game. Their goal difference is stinking.”
