‘We outwitted Bristol Rovers and should have won’ says Plymouth Argyle boss Derek Adams

A frustrated Plymouth Argyle manager Derek Adams said his side 'outwitted' Bristol Rovers for much of the match on Saturday.

The Gas drew 2-2 at Home Park when Gavin Reilly headed home James Clarke's pin-point cross in injury time to secure a share of the points.

Argyle took the lead through Ruben Lameiras before Jonson Clarke-Harris levelled the scores with another wondergoal.

But just a few minutes later the Gas were behind again when Tony Craig scored an own goal, but there was still time for Rovers to snatch a point from the game which now sees them sit in 15th place.

Speaking after the match to Plymouth Live , Adams said: “It feels like a loss today. We were up with injury time to play. We outwitted them at the start of the game with the formation that we played.

“We took control of the match from that by getting our full-backs on the ball. We dominated their centre-forwards in (Tom) Nichols and (Jonson) Clarke-Harris.

“It allowed us to get on the ball and move it, and for (Ruben) Lameiras and (Freddie) Ladapo to play further forward.

“I thought it was a very good performance at home for us. We should be sitting here with three points.

“We knew we would score. I said to everyone before the game we would score.

“I said to you we would score. We scored two goals. I said we would score off a set play, and we scored off a set play.

“We know that they are weak defensively from set plays, and that was true.

“I didn’t see them scoring the way they did from (Jonson) Clarke-Harris, which was an unbelievable strike. We should have made a tackle before that.

“We should have done better in the first half with the opportunities inside the 18-yard box, but we didn’t.

“We have added to our points total, we have taken our unbeaten run at home to eight games and we feel it’s another point gained.”
