'We have been overwhelmed' - ECHO readers show support for much-loved Tam O'Shanter Farm

ECHO readers have thrown their support behind Tam O’Shanter farm, after we revealed it is undergoing changes to secure its future for a new generation.

In recent months, Pawprints Wildlife Rescue Centre has taken over the running of the farm, in a bid to make the farm sustainable.

As the farm is currently is staffed by volunteers and funded entirely by donations, the Pawprints team wanted to make the public aware of the struggles they are under.

Josephine, who is project manager of Tam O’Shanter Urban Farm renewal project, said: "Recent visitors cannot fail to notice the huge changes we have made since we arrived in November 2018. But every visitor costs us money.

"We still need to pay for our rubbish to be removed, for water, electricity, animal feed, vets’ bills – wages for staff, and volunteer expenses.

"And we don’t want to make a compulsory entrance charge. We know how special a visit to the farm can be for many people, but we need to make sure we are still here for generations to come.”

In the wake of the ECHO article, a Just Giving page has been set up by Emma Moore.

It has already raised its £500 target and donations on the page are into £600.

Lisa Morris, who has made a donation, said: "Have loved bringing Mia to Tam O'Shanters over the last 13 years and look forward to bringing my new baby when she is old enough too!"

On Facebook readers also sent support to the farm. Jessica Emily Eccleston-English said:  "Some people need to realise that nothing in this world is free and a donation can go a long way."

Nicky Whitby added: "Absolutely fantastic place. I for one would be happy to pay a small fee to bring my children here"

Jenny McDermott added: "Tam O'Shanter's is fabulous, I've taken my nephew a few times. It would be a real shame if it had to close though. I'll pop along and make a donation."

Speaking about the support she has received, Josephine Wood, Treasurer and Trustee Pawprints Wirral Wildlife, said: "We have been overwhelmed at the huge amount of public support following yesterday's article.

"We remain committed to developing and delivering on our plans to ensure that Tam O'Shanter Farm is a thriving happy place, a sanctuary for animals and  a great place to visit, for generations to come."
