We could be about have the COLDEST May bank holiday on record

This year's May Day bank holiday could be the COLDEST since records began.

Although it's expected to stay dry from Saturday to Monday, it is going to be on the chilly side, with temperatures not expected to top 11 degrees at any point in Manchester.

BBC weather presenter and meteorologist Simon King took to social media to point out that this means we could be about to have the coldest May day bank holiday on record.

So far, the coldest one recorded was in 1982, when the temperature was 14.5C.

It was a considerably different picture last year, when the early May bank holiday was the hottest recorded since 1978, at a balmy 28.7C.

It's also a stark contrast to the hot and sunny Easter weekend, which saw unusually high temperatures for the time of year.

The Met Office is also predicting a 'cold and bright' bank holiday weekend.
