'We can never take them for granted', Steve Bruce's message to Newcastle United fans

Steve Bruce insists he will never take Newcastle United's "unbelievable" supporters for granted after tremendous turnout at Doncaster on Friday night.

The Magpies chief and his players were backed from the first whistle at the Keepmoat Stadium with fans rewarded with a 3-2 win over Rovers.

For a clutch of players it was their first big experience of playing in front of supporters.

Bruce said: “Callum Wilson’s never played of them before – this is his first time.

“You think of last year, and how absolutely rotten it was.

"A big well done to them – 3,300.

"The one thing we can never, ever do with them is take them for granted.

"They’re an unbelievable, unique support.

"Not many clubs will have that kind of support for a pre-season friendly. Unbelievable.”

Newcastle's next fixture in pre-season takes place at Rotherham when 1,600 fans could make the trip to South Yorkshire.

The visit to the New York Stadium will be the first since the 1-0 win in the Sky Bet Championship back in 2016 when Christian Atsu scored the game's only goal.
