We asked the people of Liverpool when they think lockdown will end

England has been put into a national lockdown from today until mid-February as Covid cases continue to soar.

In an address to the nation on Monday, the Prime Minister said people will be asked to stay at home once again and all schools will move to remote learning, except for vulnerable children and those of key workers.

It's the third time in 10 months that the government has imposed a national lockdown in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.

The UK's Alert Level reached its highest level of 5 for the first time on Monday - which means there is a "material risk of healthcare services being overwhelmed".

The new restrictions will be in place until mid-February at the earliest and are expected to be reviewed after the half term for schools.

However, it's currently unclear whether the lockdown will be lifted after this date and whether England will revert back to a tiered system of restrictions.

With a lot of speculation about the duration of the new rules, we asked our readers how long they think the lockdown will really last and how they feel about it.

Here's what you had to say.

Elliot Murphy said: "February half term seems a logical end. Hopefully enough vaccinated by then that the rest of us will be okay to get to a tier 2 or 3 normality."

Alli Edwards said: "At least two months, think we might not come out of this until March personally."

ECHO reader Gurby Kaur said: "April/May, though #Covid will still be around for sometime and thereafter but it'll be more controlled and not controlling us."

Kerinda Kerinda said: "The new tax year. So April 1st."

ECHO reader Paul Rimmer wrote: "Lockdown until end of March most probaby, then hopefully all restrictions eased by summer."

However, others were less optimistic.

Leanne Priotta said: "2022 maybe bit longer and once it’s finally gone we all got to keep two metres apart for another eight months maybe longer."

Jimmy Coufopoulos added: "I think it looks like we can write 2021 off as well roll on 2022."

Ste Mellor joked: "We should move back into tier 3 by 2075."

While Barry Kinnear added: "How long is a piece of string?"
