We are finally set to see the return of summer in time for the bank holiday

While most of us are ready to abandon summer, a flicker of good weather might be on its way to Manchester - just in time for the bank holiday.

Following weeks of flooding, downpours and misery, some good weather is finally on its way for the region.

It might not be the heatwave we experienced at the end of last month, where temperatures soared to nearly 40C, but the weather is certainly set to improve.

From the end of next week, dryer and most importantly - warmer weather is forecast for the region.

Whilst the hottest temperatures will be in the south of England, the north west could see temperatures rise to the mid 20s on Friday and Saturday.

Due a band of high pressure making it's way across the country, it could be time to ditch the jumpers and raincoats - if only for a short amount of time.

Greater Manchester may even last a whole weekend without a weather warning and see a return to the beer garden weather we're craving.

Steven Keates, meteorologist for the Met Office, said: "In short, it is much better than the weather we have had recently which will have left a lot of people across the country dissapointed.

"Even if there is not much sunshine around, it is likely to be dryer and feel warmer than it has been."

Here is the current forecast for the bank holiday weekend.

Thursday

There could be quite a bit of a cloud with a few showers but it should begin to feel warmer than it has been with temperatures creeping up to the low 20s.

Friday and Saturday

By far the best looking days to be out and about around the north west, with temperatures potentially creeping up to the mid 20s.

High pressure is sweeping the country which means a greater chance of it being dry and warmer.

And if you manage to catch some sunshine, it could feel pretty hot, with temperatures rising to up to 24 degrees on Saturday.

Sunday and Monday

Towards the back of the weekend, there is an increasing chance of thundery showers, but temperatures are expected to stay warm.
