Liverpool legends including Sir Kenny Dalglish, Jurgen Klopp, Steven Gerrard and Virgil van Dijk have all sent messages of support to those impacted by the terrible events that occurred during the club’s Premier League title parade.
What had been a day of celebration in the city on Bank Holiday Monday to follow Liverpool’s record-equalling 20th top-flight trophy success turned to horror after dozens of people were hit by a car on Water Street at around 6pm.
The latest update said that 65 people were injured in the incident, with 11 remaining in hospital in a stable condition.
Merseyside Police said on Tuesday afternoon that they had arrested a 53-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs.
The football world has quickly united around Liverpool and their supporters since the incident, with messages of support flooding in from players, fans and clubs alike.
Among those to show their support for those affected was Liverpool’s current captain Van Dijk, who wrote on Instagram: “My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. Praying for a speedy recovery for everyone who suffered injuries. We are all with you.”
Reds icon Gerrard wrote on social media: “Shocked, sickened and saddened at the incident we all witnessed in our city last night.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to all the people involved and their families.”

Dalglish wrote on Monday: “Shocked, horrified and deeply saddened about what happened at the end of the parade today.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone and their families who have been impacted by today’s tragic event.
“Our anthem has never felt more appropriate, You’ll Never Walk Alone. Your Liverpool family are behind you.”
Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold wrote: “My thoughts are with the whole city, especially all affected by yesterday’s devastating events.
“Hopefully those who were injured will make a full recovery and the city will continue to pull together as it always does.”
Former Liverpool manager Klopp wrote: “My family and I are shocked and devastated. Our thoughts and prayers are will all those who are injured and affected. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
