Wayne Rooney sparks Twitter debate as fans question if he's dyed his beard

Wayne Rooney had fans stroking their chins over whether he had dyed his greying beard for his English football return.

The ex-England captain, 34, inspired Derby County to a 2-1 win over Barnsley on Thursday sporting darker facial hair than days earlier.

Rooney appeared to have grey hairs in his beard when pictured on Monday.

A debate kicked off on social media over the former Man Utd and Everton striker’s beard yesterday.

One fan wrote: “Rooney has to have dyed that beard,” while another said: “I presume Wayne Rooney’s had a beard transplant?”

Another added: “Forget decade photo comparisons. Rooney’s 3 days is better. Goodbye grey beard!”

Wayne, who admitted having a hair transplant in 2011, was watched by wife Coleen, 33, and eldest sons Kai, 10, and Klay, six, at Pride Park.

He has joined the Championship club after a US spell with DC United.

It comes after the forward, who is captain and coach at the Championship club, admitted losses from gambling affected his performances on the pitch

He said he blew large sums after being "sucked in" by early betting success.

"I ended up chasing my bets trying to win my money back," he revealed.

"You're there to play for your country or club and when you're losing money the way I was then it will affect you."
