Wayne Rooney reveals he scolded Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba in Man Utd dressing room

Wayne Rooney has told all about the time he had to scold Manchester United teammates Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba and ended up confiscating their speakers in the dressing room.

The trio shared a dressing room together during the 2016/17 season under Jose Mourinho and found themselves languishing in sixth place at the end of the campaign, missing out on Champions League football via their league position.

With the start of a new generation starting to come through at Manchester United, with much of the final title winning side already phased out, Rooney was frustrated by the struggling nature of the team.

The former England captain told a story in his column for The Times about how he lost it once during the season after a defeat, with Pogba and Lingard on the wrong end of his bullish mood.

"I do remember one time, coming into training at United the day after a defeat, still feeling very annoyed and walking into the dressing room with Michael Carrick.

"We found Jesse and Paul dancing in there with the music on. I went over, turned it off and took the speakers out of the dressing room — because that’s my mindset, that’s how I’ve grown up in football.

"Paul and Jesse accepted it, because I was the senior player, but in hindsight they were not doing anything wrong, not hurting anyone, and it was just my old-school mentality kicking in.

"As Rio Ferdinand has said, players of our generation just have to get used to this generation and what has changed."

Rooney ended up leaving the club that summer to return to boyhood club Everton, before eventually moving to the MLS with DC United. He then returned to England with Derby County, before retiring earlier this year to become full-time manager of the Rams.
