Wayne Lineker and Chloe Ferry's fans have predicted the "engagement" is an Ant and Dec prank.

Saturday Night Takeaway has returned to our screens getting fans thinking about the Geordie duo's favourite Get Out Of Me Ear segment.

Ant and Dec have a hilarious history of pranking huge stars - from Richard Madeley to Craig David - by instructing the celebs to do funny things via an ear piece.

Among the sea of comments, one fan speculated about the engagement news with a picture of Ant and Dec behind the scenes.

Others added: "Publicity stunt of the decade."

Wayne and Chloe sent ripples through the showbiz circuit with the apparent news of their engagement, surprising their own co-stars.

It was a twist of fate when their paths crossed on the latest series of Celebs Go Dating where they were on a quest to find true love.

However, Celebs Go Dating star Tom Read Wilson waded into the drama on Thursday as he gave his verdict on the pair's so-called happy news.

The reality star receptionist cast a shadow of doubt on wild engagement rumours which hit the showbiz circuit on Wednesday night.

He told Capital FM 's Roman Kemp: "I have to say I’m not sure it’s real, when I was speaking to your divine producer this morning that was the first I’d heard of it!

"Honestly you could have knocked me down with a feather, I could not be more surprised. I would have thought Joey [Essex] and I before that. I really would."

Cheeky Wayne added fuel to the fire of the engagement news when he affectionately called Chloe his "wifey" beneath her latest Instagram post.

He wrote: "Looking good wifey."
