Kym Marsh appeared to confirm that Waterloo Road will be returning for a second series as she shared photos of herself back at work filming on set.
It comes after the reboot began earlier this month, after seven years off air, with many of the original cast including Kim Campbell, Adam Thomas and Katie Griffiths.
The Coronation Street actress shared a picture of her dressing table, as she got ready for another day on set as dinner lady Nicky, shooting the secured second series of the BBC show.
Kym captioned the Instagram story picture of a desk filled with make-up and hair products: “Work time!!! #waterlooroad."
The 46-year-old was delighted to return to her early TV role, as she could relate to Nicky’s struggles as a single parent to her son, David and daughter, Emilie.
Kym explained: “I was a single parent for many years when David and Emilie were little. I didn’t have anybody. I struggled to make ends meet. I begged and borrowed from family and friends to help me.
“Yes, there are elements of Nicky that I get and understand as I’ve been there too.”
On the original series that ran from 2006 to 2015, Nicky storyline followed her teenage pregnancy, now the show picks up with Nicky struggling in the cost-of-living crisis to support her family.
She adds: “Nicky hasn’t always had it easy, she has struggled over the years. She owns her own salon, she had to close that down because of the pandemic. That’s very current.
“She’s struggling to make ends meet, she’s a single parent, she’s trying to hold down several jobs to make sure her children don’t go without. It’s very relatable right now with the cost-of-living crisis.”
Even with the buzz of the show relaunching on the BBC, some viewers were disappointed with the first episode and even turned their TV off.
One wrote on Twitter : "Nahh not watching another episode of #WaterlooRoad after that. I'll stick to the Original series."
"Only taken the BBC 10 mins to ruin a once good show #WaterlooRoad” a second added, as a third agreed: “Lol what an absolute let down #WaterlooRoad is. Should’ve stopped when they were going to move the school to Scotland. Should’ve left it at that. New series…”
However, others were delighted with the revamped Waterloo Road and thought it captured the best parts of the original.
“Kudos to #WaterlooRoad for going right back to its roots and taking on difficult issues head-on. This is what we want to see from the reboot!" a viewer tweeted, as another gushed: "Can I just say; #WaterlooRoad starting with the exact same song it did all those years ago!"
