Watch: Under the Helmet with Quandre Diggs

The Detroit Lions Michigan Emmy winning documentary series “Under the Helmet” returned two weeks ago with a feature on Romeo Okwara, Now, the second installment of 2019 focuses on another defender: Quandre Diggs.

For those unfamiliar with the series, it is led by Dustyn Blindert (Senior New Media Producer) and Eamonn Reynolds (Director of Football Communications), and it looks at Lions player’s lives off-the-field, giving fans a unique perspective on who the players are as individuals.

The video opens with the 2002 NFL draft and Diggs joining his brother Quentin Jammer on stage after he was selected fifth overall by the Chargers. Diggs then opens up about his relationship with Jammer and how his older brother was his role model growing up.

“Everything he did, I wanted to do,” Diggs said about his brother. And in a lot of ways, Diggs did accomplish that. Both played corner at the University of Texas. Both were drafted into the NFL to play defensive back. Both were impact starters from the moment they stepped on the field.

The video then shifts to Diggs’ history, growing up with his grandma, the early values she instilled in him, how his mom’s status in the community influenced his childhood, and how picking the right friends helps him stay grounded.

Diggs then talks about his current day family influences. How he wants to be the best father he can be to his daughter, Ariya Marie, born last July. And the appreciation he has for his girlfriend/mother of his daughter.

The video then comes full circle, to Diggs realizing how he is now in his brother’s spot as a role model, and how he needs to set an example for the younger generation of Diggs and Jammers.
