NEW DELHI: Yashasvi Jaiswal was on 191 when Ravichandran Ashwin fell to James Anderson early on Day 2 of the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
The next man in, Kuldeep Yadav just managed to play out the three deliveries from the seasoned England pacer, with Jaiswal watching from the other end.
England debutant Shoaib Bashir bowled the next over and the Indian opener wasted no time in smashing the first two deliveries for a six and a four respectively to get to his maiden double hundred.
The BCCI shared a video of the moment on X:
Jaiswal was unbeaten on 179 on Day 1 leading India's innings after the hosts elected to bat.
Playing only his sixth Test, the 22-year-old's sensational knock took India to 375 for 7 in 102 overs.
Jaiswal, thus, became the third youngest Indian to score a double hundred in Test cricket.
Vinod Kambli holds the record of being the youngest Indian to score a double century against England at the age of 21 years and 335 days back in 1993.
The record for the second youngest Indian double centurion in Test is also held by Kambli, who scored his second successive double ton against Zimbabwe at the age 21 years and 355 days.
