FERRARI had a surprise in store at the launch of its new race-inspired 812 Competizione – revealing an even more exclusive open-top version.
Power for the road-going duo comes from the same 6.5-litre V12 used in the famous Italian brand’s 812 Superfast, linked to a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
But numerous engineering tweaks make the rear-wheel-drive supercar even more potent. It now boasts 819bhp (up from 789) and redlines at 9500rpm (a 600rpm increase).
This enables the hardtop to blister its way to 62mph in just 2.85 seconds and on to a top speed in excess of 211mph. Stats for the Competizione A targa have still to be revealed.
The aerodynamic and braking systems have been improved to handle the extra power and the car benefits from independent four-wheel steering, as well as a 38kg weight loss compared with the Superfast.

A more striking design also sees the rear screen dispensed with and replaced by an aerodynamically sculpted aluminium surface on the Competizione, while the A has classic flying buttresses.
The car’s dashboard, steering wheel and infotainment system are familiar from the Superfast.
Limited to production runs of 999 and 599 respectively, all Competizione and Aperta models have already been snapped up. So you don’t need to worry about finding the substantial six-figure sum to buy either one.
