Watch moment lorry crushes police car after being blown over by strong winds

This is the dramatic moment a lorry was blown over by heavy winds, crushing a police car as it fell onto its side.

Police were called to an area of the A1 after reports that a HGV had been blown onto its side.

But when responding officers arrived, their own patrol car was struck by another falling lorry. The Motorway CCTV of the exact moment can be viewed above.

The A1 was closed in both directions after the incident between Haddington and Dunbar.

Shocking pictures show the aftermath of the chaos on the motorway.

Fortunately, officers probing the incident say that nobody was injured in the terrifying incident.

Chief Superintendent Stewart Carle said: “Sgt Easton, the driver, was as cool-as-a-cucumber when he broadcast on INTOP1: ‘We need to close the A1 now. A lorry has just toppled onto my patrol car. And I just polished it yesterday!’

“I nearly spilt my mug of tea but was quickly reassured when told the BMW was a ‘64 plate!”
