WATCH: Jets QB Darnold practicing, still not cleared for contact

Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is back on the field with his team for the first time this week since being sidelined with mononucleosis. The third overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft was cleared for non-contact work on Monday, he is able to throw passes and be active in team and individual drills.

Head coach Adam Gase said Wednesday that his young quarterback continues to be monitored by doctors who are watching the size of his spleen as swelling of the organ is a common side effect of mono. Darnold will have more tests done on Friday as doctors work to determine what he can do on the field.

Gase believes that it may be a late, true game-time decision on whether or not his starter plays versus the Eagles (2-2) Sunday. The coach is willing to wait as late as Sunday morning to determine if Darnold will return or if Luke Falk will make his second career start for the Jets (0-3).
