Watch: Jalen Ramsey says he’s going to demand a costly contract from Jags

When the time comes for a new contract, Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey doesn’t just have plans to be the highest paid player at his position, but it appears he has plans to surpass the top deal by a mile.

In a recent Instagram live video between himself and Jags running back Leonard Fournette, the fourth-year corner said he’s going command an “ungodly” amount of money when the Jags begin contract negotiations — and by that, he means absurd.

All this talk about contracts comes after Ramsey told the media that he was informed that the Jags won’t give him a new contract this year on Tuesday. Of course, that wasn’t a shocker with them needing deals for defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, who held himself out of some organized team and minicamp sessions, and linebacker Myles Jack. Additionally, being that Ramsey is a first-round pick, they have more flexibility with him as they’ve already picked up his fifth-year option.

As we mentioned upon him stating that a new deal wasn’t happening in 2019, the longer the Jags wait, the higher his price will be, which is exactly why he’s fine with playing 2018 without an extension. He also will be watching carefully to see how the Jags do business as they try and sign Ngakoue, who is a friend of his and someone he believes deserves an extension.

As the franchises best player, Ramsey has every right to command top dollar and down the road, the Jags should have the flexibility to make a deal. Guys like Marcell Dareus could be off the Jags’ books and their total salary cap pot will rise, so Jags fans should be optimistic about Ramsey’s chances to remain a Jag.
