The Jacksonville Jaguars continued to add weapons on the offensive end with the selection of Temple running back Ryquell Armstead at pick No. 140. It was a pick that didn’t shock fans as the tailback position had several late round options for the Jags, who love to set the tone with the run.
At 5-feet-11, 220-pounds, Armsted gives the Jags an explosive runner who is tough as they come as he gutted through an ankle injury in 2018, but still managed to accumulate just over 1,000 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. He also was able to garner first-team All-American Athletic Conference honors for Matt Rhule’s squad.
The Jags got a good look at Armstead during the Senior Bowl and it appears they were impressed. On film, his explosiveness is evident and when he plants his foot in the ground, it’s hard for defenses to stop his momentum. To me, that sounds a lot like Leonard Fournette, who Armstead will be learning from over the course of time.
