Watch Glasgow Mardi Gla gay pride marchers shut down protester in iconic way

This is the moment a group of marchers celebrating Glasgow's Mardi Gla refused to be silenced by a protestor.

We the city was a sea of colour on Saturday at thousands of people marched with rainbow banners and musical floats to mark the Pride Festival .

People, many dressed head-to-toe in rainbow gear, gathered at Kelvingrove Park before heading to George Square.

Once they arrived at the city centre meeting point, they were met with a small number of Christian protesters - armed with a poster and megaphone.

But, being Glasgow , the "brave" group refused to be silenced.

Instead, they formed a joyous circle - dancing around in a video that has now gone viral.

The clip was filmed by local photographer Stephen Fyfe - who has praised the youngsters for their actions.

On twitter he wrote: "I love Glasgow - especially when #Pride #MardiGla surrounds the haters with their joy!"

And speaking to the Record he added: "These young people were very brave.

"They brought joy and love in reaction to someone who was only there to intimidate."

The video has gathered more than 17,000 views since Saturday, and has been 'liked' more than 700 times.

Elsewhere, an array of well known faces were spotted in the parade including TV presenter Gail Porter and weatherman Sean Batty while Lib Dem MP Jo Swinson addressed the crowd in George Square.

A statement from the organisers on Saturday said: "Glasgow is the kind of city where if someone needs some help we tend to rally round and help out - thats just the way we are as Glaswegians.

"We are a proud city and working together we will show that we are also a proud community.

"As a new grass roots group in our first year, we want this Pride Event to be the foundation to build upon in the years to come as we all work as a community to ensure that our voices are heard loudly and clearly across our city and region."
