Ferrari unveil 2023 livery as Charles Leclerc gets ready to battle Red Bull in new car

Ferrari became the eighth team on the Formula 1 grid to show off their 2023 car design as they pulled the covers back on the livery of the SF-23.

The Scuderia comes into the season again as one of the favourites for the title, especially having had such a strong car last year. If new boss Fred Vasseur can eliminate the strategy errors which derailed their 2022 challenge, and their new car is as quick, then they will have a good chance.

We won't find out for a few weeks just how competitive the SF-23 is compared to the machines created by their rivals. But we now know how it looks, with Ferrari having unveiled another car for the Tifosi to fall in love with on Valentine's Day.

Car launch season in 2023 so far has produced a clear theme – black. It really is slimming in the F1 world. Using exposed carbon fibre saves weight compared to using paint across the whole livery of the car, and it's a hack that is being taken advantage of by everyone.

Vasseur had already given away one detail about the design of the new Ferrari – unsurprisingly, it's red. And now the Scuderia have followed the trend and incorporated more black into their livery, to take advantage of the slightly lighter exposed carbon.

Ferrari revealed their new-look car in front of a packed grandstand of Tifosi fans at Maranello, and Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are raring to get going now. And they didn't have to wait for long before they were able to get behind the wheel.

Following the unveiling, the Ferrari duo took the SF-23 out for a spin – a rare sight on car reveal day – which fuelled excitement among F1 fans. Watching the car barrel around the Fiorano test track will whet the appetite ahead of the start of the competitive action in a few weeks' time.

Before then, though, there are still two more livery reveal events to come. Mercedes will unveil their challenger on Wednesday at Silverstone, before Alpine become the final team to show off their design on Thursday night, having already shaken down the A523 earlier this week.
