Watch adorable dog riding paddleboard after being rescued at Tynemouth beach

A couple of paddleboarders came to the rescue of a dog struggling in the sea at Tynemouth beach.

Ros Burford was walking her Staffordshire Bull Terrier Alfie along the coast when he jumped over the railings into the sea.

The poor pooch was in deep water and with no easy route back to shore, began swimming out to sea.

Eyewitness Andy Jackson saw stranded Alfie and alerted two paddleboarders who were setting off from Longsands Surf School.

And the paddleboarders got to Alfie just in time with him visibly tiring while swimming against the current.

Footage captured by Mr Jackson shows Alfie on the paddleboard and being pushed back to shore by one of his rescuers.

And he seemed to be enjoying the ride, sitting down with his tongue out as he recovers from his swim.

Alfie sustained no injuries as a result of the incident on Sunday and was reunited with a relieved Ms Burford.

She left a donation with the RNLI lifeguards on Tynemouth beach and thanked the paddleboarders for saving her much-loved friend.
