KLINGENTHAL, Germany -- Akito Watabe finished third in the 19th individual event at the Nordic combined World Cup in Klingenthal, Germany, on Saturday.
The silver medalist in the Nordic combined normal hill individual event at the Pyeongchang Olympics, Watabe held onto first place in the overall World Cup standings, with a 202-point lead over second-place Jan Schmid of Norway.
Watabe landed a 137-meter jump in the ski jumping portion to secure second, but fell back a place in the 10-kilometer cross-country ski race, in which he started 21 seconds behind the leader.
