Was West Ham 0-5 Man City a blessing in disguise for the Hammers? Robert Snodgrass thinks so

West Ham midfield Robert Snodgrass believes their 5-0 defeat to Manchester City could be a blessing in disguise for the Hammers.

The new Premier League season got off to a nightmare start at the London Stadium on Saturday but Snodgrass hopes an early wake-up call will actually be a good thing.

Snodgrass is confident West Ham will bounce back against Brighton on Saturday and said: “It is a disappointing start but that does not define our season.

"If anything, it is sometimes the best thing that can happen because you need to get back to the drawing board and realise what this Premier League is all about.

“We were conceding goals through the pre-season as well. The manager has touched on it, saying we cannot keep conceding goals. We never helped ourselves at stages [against Man City], gifting them a couple of goals, but it is the start of the season and we must get ourselves ready for the next game.”

West Ham face Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday. Snodgrass said: “We need to breed a winning mentality and get points on the board.

“Brighton are always a hard team to play against. It is the same as any team in this league, you saw Norwich come up and had a go at Liverpool. We spent in the summer and brought in more quality, and there is an expectation on you.”
