Warzone pro Aydan says Apex Legends is ‘just a better game’ than CoD’s battle royale

Aydan Conrad, one of Call of Duty: Warzone’s most recognizable pros, has made a big statement after praising Apex Legends as the superior battle royale title.

During a recent stream, Aydan, who has competed at the highest level of Warzone for years, didn’t hold back when he explained why Respawn Entertainment’s BR title keeps pulling him in. Despite his blunt assessment, the Gen.G Esports player made it clear that his comments aren’t coming from a lack of effort in Warzone. Instead, they’re rooted in experience and appreciation for what Apex Legends does differently.

“I love Apex. I swear. When I say this, (it) doesn’t mean I’m trying less in Warzone. Apex is such a better game, it’s literally just a better game. I think it’s so good. And it’s coming from someone who has played this game (Warzone) for five years, so maybe I sound like I’m over this game but I swear this game (Apex Legends) is just better dude,” he said.

For a player who has built his reputation winning high-stakes Warzone tournaments—including the $1 million Esports World Cup 2025 together with Riley “zSmit” Smith and Benjamin “Almond” Rosendahl under the Twister Minds banner—that’s a statement that carries a lot of weight.

Why Aydan thinks Apex Legends is better than Warzone

According to Aydan, Apex’s edge isn’t about flash or novelty: it’s about how the game is fundamentally designed and how it plays over time.

“I used to say that Apex was slow. I used to hate just landing in and like ‘Oh I gotta f**kin’ sit here and loot, I just wanna go on and fight.’ I remember having that same mindset when I started playing Apex. And then like after I kept playing and taking a break, then playing (and) taking a break (again), (I realized) that’s how a BR is supposed to be bro. You’re not supposed to land and just be in f**kin’ action the entire game. That’s not necessarily how a BR is supposed to be.”

He argues that the deliberate pacing results in higher-quality engagements, especially in the endgame. “And the reason I like Apex better (is that) the quality of the fights in the game is just better. Like yeah the fights are a little slower and it all feels slower that’s because the quality is higher. That’s the tradeoff in my opinion. The quality of endgame is higher. I just think the quality of the game—all the fights, all the abilities—it just adds so much to it.”

Aydan also pointed to Apex Legends‘ mechanical depth and competitive balance as major reasons for his preference. From aim assist to weapon variety, he believes Respawn’s BR game rewards skill more consistently.

“I feel like there’s not a bunch too much cheesy s**t maybe besides some of the characters like Caustic. Less aim assist bro, like mouse and keyboard are actually viable or like 50/50 on there. Higher skill gap… There’s no set meta… (In) ranked, you can use almost every gun. They’re usable, like you’re not gonna get f**ked ‘cause you’re using them. In this game (Warzone), you use pretty much the same three guns always.”

Even at the highest level of competition, he notes that Apex stays fair without the loadouts. “At the highest level, I think Apex (players are) trying to get the same guns. The only thing is they don’t have loadouts so they guarantee themselves that set two guns they want.”

Coming from one of Warzone’s most decorated pros, the praise just hits different, and it’s sure to reignite comparisons between the two BR giants. His insights may also resonate with both Apex and Warzone fans on esports betting sites, where player performance, game balance, and skill are closely scrutinized.

Whether you agree or not, Aydan’s statement just shows that Apex Legends keeps earning respect from even the most battle-hardened Call of Duty pros.
