Warriors give brutal update on Steph Curry’s hand injury

The Warriors expected to take a major step back this season without Kevin Durant or Klay Thompson in the lineup, but Golden State is now facing a worst-case scenario for the next several months after Stephen Curry broke his hand in the team’s fourth game of the season.

The Warriors announced on Friday that Curry underwent successful surgery in Los Angeles, and that the team will provide an update on his status in three months, which means Curry will be out until February at the earliest.

With Curry off the floor, D’Angelo Russell is now the sole established scoring option on the Warriors’ new roster, which is loaded with young players.

Per Five Thiry Eight’s projections, the new Warriors were a 46-win team with a healthy Curry, and dropped to a 42-win team if Curry misses eight weeks of action. Both of those estimates seem to be extremely generous given what we’ve seen so far this season. The only consolation? The Warriors do own their 2020 first-round pick, at least, and can likely expect to get one of the first few selections in the next NBA Draft.
