Warrington Wolves prop Mike Cooper joins Wigan Warriors for 2023

Wigan Warriors have confirmed they have signed England prop Mike Cooper from rivals Warrington Wolves for the 2023 season.

Cooper, 33, joins the Challenge Cup winners on an initial 12-month deal with a further 12-month option. His Wolves contract is up at the end of the season and the switch to their Super League neighbours brings an end to a 14-year career with his hometown club over two spells. In between, Cooper played 69 NRL games with St George Illawarra Dragons from 2014 to 2016.

He has eight England caps and said: “To be offered the opportunity to join Wigan is a huge honour for me. Once I’d spoke to Matty [Peet] I knew straight away this was the right move. I have plenty left in the tank and I will join this great club with a huge drive to be successful and win trophies.

“First of all, I want to earn the respect of all players, staff and supporters and I’ll do everything I can to add to the fantastic culture that runs throughout the club.”

Wigan head coach Peet said: “Mike is a player we have always admired, and we will be pleased to welcome him next season. He will strengthen our options through the middle of the field and brings with him a wealth of experience.”
