Warrant issued for man who 'stole poppy collection tins'

A warrant was issued for a man who is accused of stealing a number of poppy collection tins.

Liverpool and Knowsley Magistrates Court granted an application made on behalf of the Royal British Legion (RBL) for a warrant to arrest Sean Pullen, a former volunteer poppy appeal organiser. The warrant was granted in relation to allegations of theft and fraud by abuse of position between January 2017 and June 2019.

Mr Pullen resigned as leader of the Liverpool City Branch of the RBL claiming he was busy with other commitments in early March. The RBL then discovered he had not delivered a large number of poppy appeal collection tins in his possession on March 18, although he had claimed to have done so.

All subsequent attempts by RBL officials to meet Mr Pullen after this date were rejected on the basis he was unavailable. James Rae, prosecuting, said RBL visited Mr Pullen's former address, Jacksmere Lane but his former landlord informed them he left the property in a state and owing £10,000 in rent.

The landlord also gave RBL Mr Pullen’s post, some of which was in alias names such as Sean Faversham and Alexander Hamilton Forbes. He has not been seen since.

The court accepted there was no prospect of securing his attendance by summons and that the application was a proper one in proper form. Accordingly, an arrest warrant was issued.
