Warrant for a young woman accused of shooting at a car with a sawn-off shotgun

WANTED: A magistrate issued a warrant for the arrest of Tyra Allen, who failed to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.

A MAGISTRATE has issued an arrest warrant for a young woman who failed to appear in court over allegations she used a sawn-off shotgun to shoot up a car at Neath last year. Tyra Allen, 21, is accused of discharging the firearm into her ex-partner's rival's car in the driveway of a home at Cessnock Road at Neath on August 25, 2019.

Ms Allen had allegedly been provided the weapon by her ex-partner, Hayden Waters, who had allegedly instructed her to "shoot up" the man's house over an ongoing feud between the pair.

Ms Allen allegedly decided against shooting up the 23-year-old man's house and fired into a silver Holden Commodore instead, smashing the windows.

Ms Allen, who is represented by solicitor Donna Smith, was a no-show in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday and Magistrate Robert Stone issued a warrant to bring her to court. She has not entered pleas to charges of possession of a shortened firearm, firing a firearm onto inclosed lands and intimidation.

Strike Force Agist detectives say they launched an investigation in August, 2019, after a man at home in Neath heard a loud bang and went outside to find a vehicle badly damaged and bullet holes in the passenger side door.

In January this year, detectives went to a home at Cardiff to speak to Ms Allen about the shooting and she allegedly made a number of admissions about being responsible, telling police the shooting was related to an ongoing feud between her ex-partner and the alleged victim.

She later gave a police interview and claimed she had been provided the firearm by Mr Waters, who had encouraged her to "shoot up" the alleged victim's house. She said she took the loaded .22 calibre sawn-off shotgun and was driven to the house by Mr Waters. She was dropped off a short distance away and allegedly shot at the car because she did not want to shoot up the house. She then ran to a nearby street where she claims she was picked up by Mr Waters.

Mr Waters, 24, is charged with firing a firearm onto inclosed lands and remains on bail until October.
