Warning to avoid popular Scottish beach remains in place after 'pollution incident'

PEOPLE have been warned against taking a dip at one of Scotland’s most popular beaches after a “pollution incident”.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has urged people not to swim at Portobello beach after a sewage pump malfunction.

Scottish Water repaired the pump at McDonald Road wastewater pumping station over the weekend however SEPA say that advice against bathing remains in place.

Additional contingency measures have also been put in place to increase resilience during the busy bathing season, said Scottish Water.

The next sampling results for bathing waters will be published on Tuesday, which should let swimmers know whether it is safe to return to the water.
