Warning of disruption to East Midlands Railway services as workers set to strike

East Midlands Railway (EMR) services will be disrupted by strike action next week, resulting in a significantly reduced service across Nottinghamshire. The rail company said no services will run east out of Nottingham between Monday, October 17, and Tuesday, October 18 - affecting Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

EMR will be the only operator affected by the Unite the Union strike action. Customers who intend to use its services are being advised to check to see if that trip can still be completed.

Will Rogers, managing director for East Midlands Railway, said: "As a result of strike action being taken by Unite the union, we will be operating a significantly reduced service next Monday and Tuesday. The impact of industrial action has specifically affected the operation of our train depots and reduces our ability to run our normal timetable.

"We are advising customers to plan ahead and only travel by rail if absolutely necessary on strike days. Customers are also strongly advised to check when the time of their last train is before setting off and understand how the strike action affects their whole journey. More detailed advice, including daily travel information, is available on our website."

More than 140 workers, who are members of the union, will strike in a demand for better pay from parent company Abellio. The workers - based at depots in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester in a variety of roles - recorded an 84 percent vote in favour of industrial action. Strike action by RMT, TSSA, ASLEF and Unite unions earlier this month resulted in disruption between October 5 and 8.
