Warning issued to Tesco, Primark, Aldi, Asda, IKEA and Home Bargains shoppers as lockdown eases

Thousands of people hit the high streets across the UK as non-essential shops were allowed to reopen.

Northumberland Street in Newcastle was particularly busy on Monday as lockdown restrictions were eased.

Stores such as Primark, TK Maxx and Zara all proved popular with shoppers across the UK, the Manchester Evening News reports.

But while it was nice to be out shopping again, shoppers are reminded that everything isn't back to normal just yet.

The law states it is still illegal to meet anybody from outside your household or bubble indoors.

This means that if you go the shops with people from outside your household or bubble, you could be fined.

The official government guidance reads: "You must not meet indoors with anybody you do not live with, unless you have formed a support bubble with them (if you are eligible), or another legal exemption applies."

You are able to meet up to six people outside of your household or bubble in the following settings:

  • parks, beaches, countryside accessible to the public, forests
  • public and botanical gardens
  • the grounds of a heritage site
  • outdoor sculpture parks
  • allotments
  • public playgrounds
  • outdoor sports venues and facilities
  • outdoor hospitality venues
  • outdoor attractions
