Warning as group of kids seen 'throwing stones over cars' on East Belfast road

An East Belfast MLA has issued a warning after seeing a group of youths throwing stones over cars on a busy road.

DUP MLA David Brooks said that as he was driving over the Dee Street bridge he saw a group of roughly 10 children throwing stones over cars from the steps leading to Armitage Close on the evening of Wednesday, June 29.

He said this was not only dangerous and worrying for drivers, but had the potential of causing an accident on the nearby Sydenham-By-Pass if a stone landed on the carriageway.

The MLA has now warned parents to be aware of what their children are doing in order to avoid any accidents.

Mr Brooks said: "As I drove over the bridge at Dee St this evening I was aware of a few young kids (probably 10 or so) throwing what looked like stones over the cars driving past from the top of the steps leading to Armitage close/Harkness Parade.

"Not only dangerous and scary for drivers as they drive past as see someone about to throw, but it wouldn't take much for something to end up on the motorway with cars travelling at speed and it doesn't bear thinking about.

"Parents, if you've kids playing in the area please warn them against this and what could happen - would hate to see any accidents caused, both for drivers safety but also don't want kids getting into a terrible situation they no doubt aren't thinking about."
