‘Walmart has a habit of doing that’: Sam’s Club customer pays $15.44 for 3.23 lbs of Member’s Mark all natural turkey breast. Then she weighs it

For years, Walmart has been the subject of scrutiny for allegedly mislabelling and overcharging its meat products. Across the internet, customers documented themselves weighing packaged meat—in-store or at home—only to find it came up short of the printed number. Now, a woman caught Sam’s Club red-handed after the Member’s Mark all-natural turkey breast she ordered online turned out to be smaller than usual.

What is wrong with this Sam’s Club turkey breast?

“All right. Sam’s Club done did me dirty. I did curbside pickup, order this turkey,” TikTok creator @retta_redo says, showing the Member’s Mark all-natural turkey breast on her kitchen counter.

Then, she recounts what led to her discovery. “I get home [and] take it out.” As soon as she saw it, she knew something was off. “I’m like, ‘What the heck? Why is it so tiny?’” she says. “Normally, the ones that get are two to three times the size. We buy this turkey breast all the time.”

Annoyed by the size, the content creator decided to check out the label. “They are claiming this is 3.23 pounds,” she remarks, irritated. “They charged me for that amount. $15.44 is what is on my receipt.”

But the content creator refused to believe the printed weight was correct. So, she revealed the kitchen scale she used originally to test it for herself. When she places the turkey breast on the scale, 1.929 lbs pops up on the digital screen, confirming her suspicion.

“1.9 pounds in the packaging, and they charged me for 3.2.” As a result, the incident threw a wrench into @retta_redoor’s dinner plans. “Honestly, the saddest thing is, I wanted to have this for dinner,” she says. “Now I have to drive all the way across town in the next day or two to Sam’s Club to return this.”

@retta_redo continues to express her frustration by blasting the company and tagging them in the caption, “Caught Sam’s Club giving my turkey an imaginary glow-up when they charge me for a 3.23 lb turkey breast that weighs 1.9 lbs… math is not mathing. Does turkey shrink in the package???? Explain yourself @Sam’s Club.”

Viewers were not surprised

The video garnered over 41,000 views. Because Sam’s Club is a Walmart subsidiary, many were not phased due to the corporate giant’s reputation.

“Walmart is notorious for this,” one viewer commented.

“Sam’s is Walmart and they are well known for these weight ‘errors’ and price differences [at the] register,” another concurred.

“Walmart has been doing [everybody] dirty,” a third stated.

“Walmart has a habit of doing that. They had to pay in a lawsuit because of this. They do it on purpose and hope you don’t notice,” a fourth remarked.

What did Sam’s Club say?

The content creator’s video reached the retailer’s FYP.

“Good afternoon Retta. Thank you for reaching out to Sam’s Club. We are sorry to hear this. Please send us a PM, so we can further assist you,” they responded in the comments section, evoking the ire of viewers.

Walmart packaged meat lawsuits

Walmart has faced several lawsuits for manipulating the prices of weighted products. The most recent one was filed last year by California counties. However, it turns out, meat wasn’t the only product. Poultry, pork, seafood, and certain fruits were among the items listed. In August, Walmart agreed to settle by paying $5.4 million to those who purchased these items from October 19, 2018, to January 19, 2024. Those who filed a claim received $500. The corporate giant has denied these claims and any wrongdoing.
