Disgraced former congressman George Santos may be serving more than seven years in federal prison, but Marjorie Taylor Greene isn’t convinced justice is being served. In her latest social media tirade, she argued that Santos is being treated like a political prisoner, while insisting that the real criminals are still sitting comfortably in Congress.
Speaking through her X account on Sept. 23, Greene claimed that Santos has been in solitary confinement for nearly 30 days in the Federal Correctional Institution, Fairton, New Jersey. The Republican politician was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison in April 2025 and has been in the FCI since July 25. However, Greene argued that 87 months is “way too long for the crimes he was sentenced for,” and shared how he has been in solitary confinement for 30 days now.
They say it’s “for his safety” due to threats. I’m told he is in his cell 24 hours per day, and he is only allowed to get a shower 3 times a week. He does not get any sunlight. He’s only allowed to buy stamps from the commissary and is drinking water from the sink. He is in the cell on the right marked “after,” and there are no windows. This is torture.
Santos’s legal troubles began in 2023, when he was hit with 13 federal charges, followed by 10 more felonies later that year. He eventually pleaded guilty to just two of the 23 counts. Still, Greene insisted that his 87-month sentence is excessive, especially, she claimed, when “real criminals” are still serving in Congress without consequence.
There are criminals as we speak serving in Congress and many other former government officials that are criminals walking free that did far more heinous things than George Santos!!!
For Greene, Santos isn’t the real problem. In her eyes, the true offenders are still “walking free” on Capitol Hill. However, for the critics, her defense of a disgraced lawmaker only serves to highlight her continued efforts to conflate political allegiance with accountability.
