Wakefield fire: Shocking footage sees smoke and flames billowing into the air metres from houses

A huge fire in Wakefield is still burning strong with flames shooting high up above houses hours after it started.

This video shows the sheer height the fire is still at, three hours after emergency services were called.

Residents living nearby can still see the flames coming through the black smoke billowing into the air.

People on social media have reported that they can see the smoke for miles.

Police have warned people who live near to the Speedibake factory to keep all windows and doors closed.

The fire broke out around 1.30pm at Westgate Retail Park.

Around 140 firefighters are said to be tackling the blaze.

West Yorkshire Police issued a statement to say no injuries have been reported, but people living nearby are asked to keep all windows and doors closed.

A spokesman for the force said: “Emergency services are currently in attendance at a building fire at Westgate Retail Park in Wakefield.

“Police were called to Speedibake on the retail park at 1.30 this afternoon.

“No injuries have been reported.

“A number of roads around the area are closed including the junction from Westgate onto Ings Road and this is causing traffic on surrounding routes in Wakefield City Centre.

“Anyone living in the City Centre is asked to keep their windows and doors closed.

“Please avoid the area.”
