A waiter was shot dead by a customer who lashed out because he was kept waiting for a sandwich.
The 28-year-old victim was hit in the shoulder and died at the scene.
It happened at the Mistral pizza and sandwich bar in the Paris suburb of Noisy-le-Grand.
The suspect, who is believed to have used a hand-gun, fled the scene. A murder investigation is under way.
Horrified locals gathered outside the Mistral in the aftermath of the shooting on Friday.
One said: “He was killed for a sandwich?”
Another added: “It is sad. It’s a quiet restaurant, without any problems. It just opened a few months ago.”
Others claim the area has suffered a recent surge in drug-dealing and drunken behaviour.
The murder is the second time France has been blighted by shootings in just a few weeks.
On July 28, three people – one a bystander – were shot dead in Ollioules, east of Marseille, in a suspected gang feud.
